Quantum Secrets

A wild quantum computing story is making the rounds this week. Earlier this year, Google Quantum AI published a major improvement to Shor’s algorithm – the famous quantum method that could eventually break the kind of elliptic-curve cryptography used by Bitcoin and Ethereum wallets. The strange part? Google did not fully reveal the optimization. Instead, it used a zero-knowledge proof to show the improvement existed without exposing all the details, reportedly after engaging with the U.S. government. Now, according to one co-author, the key idea has already been rediscovered by outside researchers, and an open challenge is producing even more improvements. The same co-author now puts the odds of “Q-day” – when quantum computers break real-world cryptography – at 10% by 2030 and 50% by 2032. Read more →

Kraken opens IPO access to retail investors

Payward's xStocks platform will let Kraken customers and select partners buy tokenized U.S.-listed IPO shares at the offering price, launching in coming weeks. Shares are tokenized and backed 1:1 by underlying stocks. xStocks has already processed over $30 billion in transaction volume, signaling growing appetite for tokenized equities in mainstream markets. Helium acquired by Andrew Yang’s Noble Mobile

In 2025, previous Presidential nominee, Andrew Yang, decided to take on phone giants Verizon and AT&T with a low-cost mobile phone network, Noble Mobile. Today, Noble is expanding by acquiring crypto-focused Helium Mobile, gaining roughly 600,000 customers and access to Helium's crypto-powered hotspot network.

As part of the deal, Noble will begin using the Helium Network, a crypto-powered patchwork of cellular hotspots that made Helium a crypto household name in 2021. Currently, Noble Mobile leases spectrum from T-Mobile to serve its customers.

Notably, the deal was only for the consumer business. Helium Network, the HNT token, and Helium’s hotspots which we have covered before in CoinSnacks are not a part of the deal. Read more →
