BNB crosses $1,000

Binance Coin (BNB) achieved a historic all-time high above $1,000 yesterday, overtaking Solana (SOL) to rank as the 5th largest cryptocurrency by market cap. There are main factors at play here: (1) Rumors are circling that Binance’s founder, CZ, may be returning to the company and that he may even receive a Trump presidential pardon (odds at 46%). To the surprise of no one of who read Gemini’s IPO filings, the market interest in Gemini’s stock has waned quickly. After going public exactly one week ago at an IPO price of $28, the stock rallied for a couple days only to slide ~30%, with share prices now below it’s IPO price. The exchange lost $282.5 million in the first half of 2025. By comparison, Coinbase (COIN) had more than $1 billion in net income for the same period. Read more →

Yesterday Coinbase announced they are introducing USDC lending directly through the Coinbase app, allowing users to earn up to 10.8% yields through a new integration with Morpho. Coinbase emphasized that despite the complexity of DeFi, the integration will maintain the platform’s familiar interface and security features. USDC already provides Coinbase users with passive rewards of 4.1% APY, or 4.5% for Coinbase One members. While 10.8% sounds amazing, it is worth noting that this is just a promotional rate with ~5% being subsidized by Morpho… eventually the rate will probably land a few points higher than normal USDC yields.
