Gold blew past $5,000/oz for the first time ever and silver surged above $100/oz as investors pile into traditional safe-havens amid fresh global jitters. Meanwhile, bitcoin has slipped back to ~$88,000 with broader sentiment inching closer to extreme fear territory.

Rumor: Coinbase in talks to acquire South Korean exchange Coinone
Coinone, S. Korea's 3rd-largest crypto exchange, is rumored to be exploring the sale of chairman Cha Myung-hoon's 53.4% stake. Shares held by the 2nd-largest shareholder, Com2Us — which acquired a 38.42% stake in 2022 — could also potentially be included in any deal.
The report suggested that Coinbase (COIN) may participate in the sale, with execs from the company scheduled to visit Coinone this week. It would make sense… the S. Korean market is heating up with Upbit (the largest exchange) recently acquired by Naver and Gopax (the 5th largest exchange) acquired by Binance. Read more →
Winter Storm Fern Knocks Out Mining Pools Across the US
Winter storm Fern delivered a rare, real-time stress test for Bitcoin’s US mining footprint. As grids tightened, large miners voluntarily powered down. Foundry USA, one of the largest Bitcoin mining pools in the world, saw its mining pool hashrate drop ~60% since Friday, causing Bitcoin’s block production to slow.
