US Weighs Initiative to Promote Dollar-Backed Stablecoin Abroad
The Trump administration is considering joint ventures with private companies to promote dollar-backed stablecoins overseas, Bloomberg reports. Treasury, State and the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation could help lead the effort, aimed at strengthening the dollar’s global role and boosting demand for U.S. Treasuries. Stablecoin issuers hold short-term government debt among the reserves backing their tokens, so wider adoption could mean more Treasury buying.
