Sony Wants In

The race to offer crypto banking services in the U.S. is so hot that even Japanese conglomerate Sony (SONY) has thrown its hat in the ring. The firm filed with the OCC this week, entering the race to secure a trust charter through its subsidiary, Connectia Trust, to issue stablecoins and provide crypto custody. Bitcoin prices have plunged under $105,000 for the first time since June, with traders fearful a huge bitcoin price crash could be just around the corner. According to the Bitcoin Fear & Greed Index, sentiment now stands at 22/100, marking a shift into the ‘Extreme Fear’ category. Meanwhile, gold has surged to fresh all-time highs above $4,350 per ounce. While we still believe there is much upside for BTC this year, that doesn’t mean there won’t be some great opportunities to acquire some digital-gold at lower prices in the near future. Read more →

Huobi Founder To Launch $1 Billion Ether Treasury

Li Lin, founder of crypto exchange Huobi and chairman of Avenir Capital, is teaming up with some of Asia’s earliest Ethereum investors to launch a treasury vehicle focused on buying ETH. The group, which has already raised $1 billion, is in talks to acquire a Nasdaq-listed shell company to support the venture. Li, who sold Huobi to Justin Sun after China’s 2021 crypto ban, now leads Avenir, a Hong Kong investment firm managing over $1 billion and among Asia’s largest Bitcoin ETF holders. Read more →
